There are many lessons to be gleaned from what History teaches us through it’s stories and what the Principle of Subsidiarity tells us through it’s timeless principle of emphasizing the most local solutions as the best approach to resolving problems. Here we put up pages with discussions and presentations on practical truths which we have gleaned from History and the Principle of Subsidiarity.

History – Here at On This Terrestrial Ball we believe strongly in the following old sayings as to the importance of knowing History: 1) Those who do not learn from the lessons of History are doomed to repeat them and 2) History may not exactly repeat, but it rhymes. To this end, we here share significant historical discussions and presentations where we derive lessons that History can teach us and what we can learn from them to avoid repeating these historical mistakes.

The Principle of Subsidiarity – Here at On This Terrestrial Ball we believe strongly in the Principle of Subsidiarity which holds that: “a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to co-ordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good.” To this end, here share significant discussions and presentations where we seek solutions rooted in this principle so as to respect individual human freedom and acknowledge the necessity of free will in order for human action to have true merit.
